What was the Empire State Building built for?
To house corporate offices, the Empire State Building was formally constructed. Less formally, the Empire State Building was also intended to be the world’s tallest structure. The skyscrapers Bank of Manhattan Building and Chrysler Building in New York City were the rivals to beat at the time of its construction (it was completed in 1931).

Where is the Empire State Building located?
The Empire State Building is situated on Fifth Avenue at 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan of New York City, New York. It’s just down the street from NYC Steam Cleaning. The site was also the home of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel’s original Fifth Avenue location before it was built.
The contest may have been inspired by the Empire State Building’s notable appearances in some of the most romantic movies of the 20th century. Star-crossed lovers famously arrange to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building after some time apart in the films “Love Affair” (1939) and its remake, “An Affair to Remember” (1957). An Affair to Remember is directly referenced in the 1993 smash romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle, in which Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks’ characters finally cross paths on the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Beyond its romantic associations, the Empire State Building has appeared in a variety of popular cultural works. Perhaps its first and most well-known appearance was in the 1933 movie King Kong, which was released not long after the building’s completion. The Empire State Building’s display honors the skyscraper’s pervasiveness in popular culture by montaging hundreds of appearances in films, video games, comic books, and other media.
